In 2023, exports grew by 6.1%, according to provisional data from the Customs and Special Taxes Department of the State Tax Administration Agency. By economic destination, exports of all types of goods increased: consumer goods by 12.3%, capital goods by 4.4% and intermediate goods by 2.3%. By geographical area, sales increased in Central and South America (28.1%), other countries of Europe (8,6%) and in the European Union (7.6%). As for imports, they decreased by 1.7% with decreases in those of intermediate goods (−6.7%), while purchases of consumer goods increased by 8.8% and capital purchases by 1.1%. By geographic areas, the decreases in purchases in Central and South America (−21.1%) stand out.

In december 2023 exports decreased by a year-over-year 18.4% in Catalonia. By economic destination, exports consumer goods decreased by 25.3%, capital goods by 14.2% and intermediate goods by 12.5%. By geographical area, sales decreased in Central and South America (−42.8%), other countries of Europe (−24.6%) and in the European Union (−14.8%). On the other hand, imports decreased by a year-over-year 12.9%, as a result of the decreased in imports of all goods: intermediate goods by 14.0%, capital goods by 12.5% and consumer goods by 11.1%. By geographical area, sales decreased in Central and South America (−32.5%).
