Gender Equality Index. 2021

In 2021, the gender equality index in Catalonia was 76.5 points (total equality stands at 100), which represents an increase of 2.4 points compared to 2020. The Catalan data are 6.3 points above the European Union average, which was 70.2 points, and 1 tenth above that of Spain (76.4).

Regarding the 6 domains in which the 31 indicators that make up this index are structured, the health domain is the one that presents the highest level of gender equality, with 89.6 points. Next, from highest to lowest score, are the domains of money (80.8), power (80.8), time (75.9) and work (75.8). Finally, the lowest score is obtained by knowledge (66.1).

Compared to the previous year, gender equality improved in the domains of power (4.7 points), time (3.7 points), knowledge (2.1 points), money (1.9 points) and work (0.9 points). On the contrary, it worsened in the health domain (0.6 points).

In comparison with the European Union average, Catalonia registered top results in equality in 5 of the 6 domains, of which power (21.7 points) and time (7.3 points) stand out. On the other hand, Catalonia had a lower score than the European Union average in the money domain (−1.8).

In relation to Spain as a whole, Catalonia presented better score in the domains of time (5.4 points), money (2.5 points) and work (0.4 points), but worsened in knowledge (−4.0 points), health (−1.7 points), and power (−0.3 points).
