Statistics on Hotel Activity. 04/2024

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 7.7% year-over-year in April 2024, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 25.2%; of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 39.4% and travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 6.4% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 0.9% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, United States and United Kingdom show the most overnight stays in absolute terms (640.3, 343.9 and 332.2 thousand, respectively), and registered positive year-over-year variations by 0.7%, 13.6% and 11.6%, respectively.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Barcelona were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.0 million, 849.0 thousand and 744.58 thousand, respectively) and registered negative year-over-year variations of 1.3%, 13.8% and 3.4%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments decreased by 8.7% year-over-year, with a decrease in domestic tourism by 25.1% and an increase in foreign tourism by 2.0%.

The Easter effect must be considered, given that this year it was celebrated in March and in 2023 it was celebrated in April. It is convenient to analyse the two months as a whole.
