Unemployment benefits are of limited length and are awarded provided that their beneficiaries have lost their jobs involuntarily and that there exists a prior legal relationship with the Social Security and the fulfilment of certain contributory requirements. They are managed by the SEPE (State Public Employment Service), under the authority of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
Information is provided on an annual basis on the number of benefits, the average benefit and the annual amount of the unemployment benefits in Catalonia. Idescat has drawn up these statistics since 1991 upon the basis of the information provided by the SEPE.
