Methodological note

People studying at university or university-like (tertiary-level) education with an education level CINE-2011 (ISCED) (International Standard Classification of Education).

  • Level 5. Short-cycle tertiary education
  • Level 6. Bachelor's or equivalent level
  • Level 7. Master's or equivalent level
  • Level 8. Doctoral or equivalent level

In Catalonia tertiary education level covers higher education in design, conservation and restoration of cultural assets, dramatic arts, higher degree in music, higher degree in dance and training cycles for higher degree vocational training, training cycles for higher degree plastic arts and design, higher degree in sports and university education.

Within university education, studies previous to the European Higher Education Area (first cycle, first and second cycle, and second cycle studies) are included, and studies adapted to the European Higher Education Area (such as official degrees and masters). From the 2010/2011 school year, doctoral students are also included. Moreover, the data only collect official university studies.

The reference year refers to the second part of the school year: 2001 corresponds to 2000/2001, and so on successively.

Eurostat implemented the CINE-2011 (ISCED) classification from the 2012–2013 school year. For data on previous school years, the CINE-97 (ISCED) classification is followed.
