Quarterly Accounts. Q3/2023. Advance of the GDP

The gross domestic product of Catalonia increased by 2.1% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2023, according to the advance estimate. In quarter-over-quarter terms, the rate of change was 0.1%.

The year-over-year change recorded in the third quarter of the year was 2.1%, maintaining the same growth rate as the previous quarter.

The GDP growth in the third quarter was determined by the positive evolution of all sectors except agriculture. Construction registered a rate of change of 3.6%, one tenth of a percentage point lower than in the second quarter. Services recorded an increase of 2.9%, two tenths above the previous quarter (2.7%). Industry grew by 1.3%, three tenths of a point higher than in the previous quarter. On the other hand, agriculture showed a year-over-year variation of −8.2% and maintained negative rates, as in previous quarters.

The purpose of the of the quarterly advance of GDP is to provide information on the evolution of the Catalan economy with the least possible delay after the quarter in question. For this reason, macromagnitudes are calculated using statistical sources that do not cover the entire period and do not normally include data for the third month of the quarter.

The advance of the GDP results for the third quarter of 2023 is provisional and will be updated in the next publication of the Quarterly Accounts, scheduled for 14 December.
