Catalan exports of industrial products of high technological content reached a value of 1,599.7 million euros in the third quarter of 2016, representing an increase of 5.6% on a year-over-year basis.
Sales of medium-high level industrial products increased 1.8% in the third quarter of this year, reaching a value of 7.322,4 million euros. Medium-low level products (with a value of 1,964.9 million euros) increased by 3.0% on a year-over-year basis, and exports of products with a low technological content (4,233.1 million euros) increased by 2.3% compared to the third quarter of the previous year.
In the third quarter of 2016, purchases of products with a high technological content abroad have decreased (−2.4%) for the first time since the second quarter of 2013. Regarding imports of products of the remaining levels, those of medium-high and low content continue to record year-over-year increases (4.9% and 0.5%, respectively), whereas medium-low level overseas purchases have decreased (−6.2%).
The main goal of this statistics, which are drawn up by Idescat based on Customs files, is to present the trade flows of exports and imports of industrial products, which involve a high level of expenditure on R&D, between Catalonia and abroad. The source of information is the territorial operations file of the Customs and Special Taxes Department of the Tax Administration Agency. The file in question contains the most relevant information obtained from Single Administrative Document (SAD) and Intrastat declaration data.
