The expenditure on technological innovation was 3,324 million euros in Catalonia in the year 2015, 6.6% higher than the previous year, according to the Survey on Innovation in Companies.
In period 2013-2015, the number of companies which they stated had carried out technological innovations was 4,303. In this same period, 7,901 Catalan companies carry out activities of non-technological innovation, mainly of organizational character.

The Idescat broadens this information for Catalonia disaggregating variables like the number of companies and the total expenditure on innovation by type of expenditure (internal R&D, external R&D, etc.), the number of companies by type of innovation (product, process and product and process) and the intensity of innovation with respect to the total companies, with respect to innovative companies and with respect to companies with R+D activities.
