The Production Index in the Service Sector (IPROSS) increased by 6.5% on year-over-year data in Catalonia in the second quarter of 2017. Furthermore, the Turnover Index (IASSVN) also showed a 6.4% increased with respect to one year ago, since trade increased by 6.3% and the other services showed a 6.6% increase. Within the other services, all sectors registered increases; hostelry (12.3%) and administrative activities and auxiliary services (8.0%).
The Production Index (IPROSS) and Turnover Index (IASSVN) in the services sector measure the short-term evolution in the activities of companies operating in the Retail, Transport and storage, Hostelry, Information and communication, Professional, scientific and technical activities, Administrative activities and auxiliary services and company services. The most important indicator when analysing the short-term economic performance is the IPROSS, as its results best reflect the real evolution of the GVA in the services sector.
Based on the data from the INE's activity index in the services sector (IASS), every quarter Idescat draws up a short-term report on the indicators in the services sector. This report includes the general turnover index (IASSVN) broken down into five sectors and the production index in the services sector (IPROSS). The latter is obtained from the aggregate value added index (IAVASS) once the influence of prices on the economic activity (deflator) is eliminated.
