Idescat has published the dossier "Mobilitat obligada de la població de Catalunya" [Commuting in the population of Catalonia] (PDF), which is number 21 in the "Dossiers Idescat" collection.
The dossier analyses commuting in the population of Catalonia for work and study reasons. Commuting refers to travel between one's place of residence and the place of work or the place of study.
With regard to work, commuting in the population is analysed as classified by sex and the place of residence. Regarding students, the variables analysed are the types of studies and the place of residence.
The statistical sources used are as follows:
- Commuting for work reasons
The 2011 Population and Housing Census provides data on the number of people who travel and the labour and sociodemographic characteristics, as well as on people's commuting.
- Commuting for study reasons
- University Studies: enrolment records for the 2014-2015 academic year of the Secretariat for Universities and Research, which provides data on the students enrolled in the 12 Catalan universities
- Non-University Studies: enrolment records for the 2015-2016 academic year of the Ministry of Education, which provides data on students aged three years and over enrolled in education centres in Catalonia.
