Statistics on Hotel Activity. 10/2017

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 3.3% year-over-year for the month of Octoberr 2017, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourist overnight stays decreased by 2.0%: Catalan travellers decreased by 2.4% and travellers from the rest of the State by 1.6%. Foreign tourism overnight stays decreased by 2.9% year-over-year.

By main country of origin, overnight stays of tourists from the United States increased by 11.8%, while those of residents in Germany (−14.4%) and France (−9.9%) decreased.

By tourism brands, Costa Daurada (9.2%) and Costa Barcelona (4.9%) were the locations that presented the highest increases at overnight stays. However, these decreased by 8.9% and 7.0% in Costa Brava and Barcelona, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments decreased by 4.4% year-over-year with decreases in both domestic tourists (−5.9%) and in foreign tourism (−3.6%).

The monthly data are still provisional since January 1999 to December 2010. The short-term data are definitive from January 2011 until last year over period published

The Hotel Occupancy Survey is one of the main sources of statistics for gauging tourist activity. Carried out each month by INE, it provides information on travellers, overnight stays and the occupancy rate in hotel establishments. Idescat analyses these variables according to the provenance of the travellers by place of origin and by destination zones and by category of the establishment.
