Catalonia exported industrial products amounting to 62,047.0 million of euros in 2016, involving a 2.7% increase with respect to the previous year, according to definitive data from the Customs and Special Taxes Department of the State Tax Administration Agency. By technology levels, foreign sales involving high technology-level products increased by 8.3%, followed by middle-high technology-level products (2.7%) and low technology-level products (6.1%); On the other hand, those of middle-low technology-level products decreased by 0,8%.
Further, imports of industrial products amounted to 71.002,4 milions of euros, which represents a 3.7% increase compared to the previous year. Imports of industrial products increased at all technological levels, excluding middle-low technology-level products, whose import fell by 4.3%. The imports involving middle-high increased by 6.5%, 3.4% for low technology-level and 3.3% for high technology level products.
The main goal of this statistics, which are drawn up by Idescat based on Customs files, is to present the trade flows of exports and imports of industrial products, which involve a high level of expenditure on R&D, between Catalonia and abroad. The source of information is the territorial operations file of the Customs and Special Taxes Department of the Tax Administration Agency.
