Contributors and affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 12/2018

The number of contributors to the Social Security in Catalonia increased by 2.9% at 31 December 2018 with respect to the same period of the previous year and stood at 3,221,797 people.

The number of contributors increased in all the counties, but the counties with the highest rises with respect to December 2017 were El Baix Penedès (4.9%), El Montsià (3.6%) and L’Anoia (3.5%).

By sex, the year-over-year increases in both male and female contributors stood at 2.9%. By age, the respective average year-over-year increases in contributors above 55 years of age and below 30 years of age (6.2% and 5.0%) are particularly noteworthy. By nationality, the year-over-year increase in foreign contributors (10.1%) was higher than that recorded by contributors with Spanish citizenship (1.8%).

The number of affiliations in Catalonia in December 2018 stood at 3,388,086, a figure 3.0% higher than in December 2017.

By sectors and in comparison with the previous December, the number of affiliations rose in all the economic sectors: construction (5.6%), services (3.1%), industry (1.7%) and agriculture (1.1%). By type of employment relationship, the numbers of affiliations from paid employment (3.4%) and self-employment (1.0%) both increased.

In Catalonia, 23.9% of the affiliations to the Social Security from paid employment were part-time in December 2018. The highest proportions were recorded in La Cerdanya (30.7%), El Solsonès (27.9%) and La Terra Alta (27.8%). In contrast, L’Aran and L’Alt Camp had the lowest levels of partiality (18.5% and 19.6%, respectively).

With regard to the degree of temporality, the counties where it was highest were L’Alta Ribagorça (41.3%), El Pallars Sobirà (39.5%) and El Baix Ebre (38.9%). In contrast, those which displayed the lowest degrees of temporality were El Baix Llobregat (24.5%) and La Segarra and El Vallès Oriental (both 24.8%). The degree of temporality of the affiliations in Catalonia stood at 27.1%.
