Quarterly Accounts. Q4 2018

The gross domestic product of Catalonia registered a year-over-year increase of 1.8% and a quarter-over-quarter increase of 0.4% in the fourth quarter of 2018.

From a demand perspective, domestic demand grew by 2.4%, due to an increase in consumption by the public administrations (2.3%) and the gross capital formation for equipment goods and others (6.1%). On the other hand, household consumer expenditure experienced a downturn with a reduction of two decimal points to 1.5%. With regard to the foreign sector, total foreign exports showed a decrease and stood at a growth rate of 0.4%. The main component, foreign exports of goods and services, had a negative evolution (−1.1%); on the other hand, foreign consumption in the territory grew by 9.5%. Total imports increased by 2.4%.

From a supply perspective, the negative rate of change of the industry (−2.4%) stood out. The construction industry maintained remarkable growth at 5.2% and services also remained fairly stable, with an increase of 2.9%. Agriculture recorded a negative rate of change of 1.2%.

The quarterly accounts are presented using the year 2010 as the accounting base and are congruent with the Annual Economic Accounts for Catalonia. Base 2010. The quarterly series should be treated as provisional, given that the need for coherence between the quarterly and annual estimations implies modifications to the quarterly estimations, at least while the annual estimations are still provisional.
