Statistics on Hotel Activity. 05/2019

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 1.5% year–over–year for the month of May 2019, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourist overnight stays decreased by 3.4%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 6.5% while travellers from the rest of the State increased by 0.5% year–over–year. Foreign tourism overnight stays decreased by 0.9% year–over–year.

By country of origin, tourists from United Kingdom, France and United States presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (767.6, 686.0, and 321.2 thousand, respectively), with year-on-year variations of different sign: United Kingdom and United States grew by 7.1% and by 12.0%, respectively, and France decreased by 16.7%.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2,054.8, 1,081.9 and 1,077.5 thousand, respectively) and show year–over–year variations of different sign: Barcelona increased by 7.1%, while Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava decreased by 8.3% and by 6,1%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 3.3% year–over–year, with increases also by 3.3% in both of them, domestic turism and foreign tourism.
