Labour Cost Statistics. Q2/2020
The labour cost per worker and month stood at 2,553.59 euros in Catalonia in the second quarter of 2020, 11.2% less than in the same quarter of 2019. For specific sectors, the labour cost per worker and month in the ICT sector was 4,399.35 euros, 1.5% less than a year ago, while the culture sector stood at 2,944.05 euros, with a year-over-year decrease of 10.3%. The tourism sector fell 38.9% compared to the same quarter of 2019, with a labour cost of 1,284.38 euros per worker and month. In the tourism sector, the highest labour cost is recorded in the tourism transport subsector (2,776.49 euros). In the culture sector, the audiovisual and advertising subsector is the one with the highest labour cost (3,561.52 euros).
The wage cost per worker and month decreased by 13.2% in Catalonia and reached 1,879.10 euros. The wage cost in the ICT sector was 3,418.80 euros (−1.6% on a year-over-year basis), in the culture sector was 2,217.84 euros (−11.1%) and in the tourism sector was 870,73 euros (−44.1%).
By effective hour, the labour cost was 24.94 euros, and the wage cost 18.35 euros. In the analysed specific sectors, ICT sector had the highest effective wage cost per hour (24.55 euros), followed by the cultural (21.20 euros) and tourism (15.94 euros) sectors.
Finally, the number of job vacancies was 12,476, 45.3% fell than a year ago. The service sector accounts for 88.7% of these job vacancies.
The entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, whereby a state of alarm is declared for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, has meant that many companies have closed or produced with less intensity since that date. The most important impact on the Labour Cost Statistics is seen in both the decrease in labor costs and the reduction in the hours worked.
