In 2008, there were 1,103,790 foreigners living in Catalonia, which accounts for 15% of the total population. Since 2000, when this statistical series was started, the number of foreign inhabitants has risen by 922,200 individuals. In 2000, there were 181,590 foreigners living in Catalonia, a figure that accounted for 2.9% of the total population.
