Population and Housing Census. 2022. Relation to economic activity. Expansion of the results
Women accounted for 47.6% of the employed population on 1 January 2022 according to the Population Census, which is 0.1 percentage points more than in the previous year. The sector with the highest proportion of women was services at 54.1% followed by industry (31.2%). By nationality, foreigners made up 14.5% of the employed population, 0.7 percentage points more than in the previous year. The sector with the highest percentage of foreigners was agriculture (37.0%) followed by construction (19.9%).
In relation to the economic activity of the establishment and in relative terms, the sections with the highest proportion of women were activities of households as employers; undifferentiated goods- and services-producing activities of households for own use (88.5%) along with the health care activities sector (76.0%). By contrast, the sections with the lowest proportion of women were construction (11.9%) and extractive industries (12.0%). By nationality, the sections with the highest proportion of foreigners were activities of households employing domestic staff and activities of households producing goods and services for own use (43.7%) along with agriculture, livestock farming, forestry and fisheries (37.0%).
Regarding the employed population by large groups of occupation, in 2022 women represented 66.6% of clerical support workers but only 12.1% of craft and related trades workers. By nationality, foreigners accounted for 29.1% of employees in elementary occupations but only 8.3% of professionals.
In relation to employment status, in 2022, 67.9% of people employed were permanent or indefinite employees, 15.9% were temporary employees, 13.1% were self-employed without salaried staff, 2.9% were self-employed with salaried staff and 0.2% were in another situation. By nationality, 14.9% of Spaniards and 21.6% of foreigners were temporary employees.
