Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 11/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 87,640 people in November 2024, a figure that represents an increase of 2.5% compared to the same month in the previous year, and stands at 3,624,125 people. The number of contributors increased in all counties except El Lluçanès (where it fell by 1.3%), Aran, El Priorat and La Terra Alta. The largest increase was in La Selva at 3.7%.

In relation to October, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 28,000 people (0.8%), and it did so in 36 counties and Aran. The highest increase was in Aran (4.8%) while the sharpest decrease was in La Selva (−4.1%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole the number of women affiliated to Social Security increased by 42,385 and the number of men by 45,255. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.5% and 2.4%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased their number of contributors compared with a year ago. Contributors under 30 years of age increased the most (5.0%) and did so in all counties except El Lluçanès (−4.4%). The main rises were in L'Alt Empordà (8.2%) and El Bages (7.7%).

Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 6.5% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so in all counties except in El Priorat (−2.1%) and L'Alta Ribagorça where they stayed the same. Spanish national contributors rose by 1.6% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 39 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector were up 2.8% year-over-year, the highest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory except in El Lluçanès and Aran. Affiliations in industry rose by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 30 counties. The increase in construction was 2.1% and it grew in 32 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 60 more affiliations than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.6% of employee affiliations in November were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.5%, more than double the figure for men (12.7%).

Regarding temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.7%, 1.2 percentage points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment was La Ribera d’Ebre (15.1%) while El Baix Empordà had the lowest level (8.3%).
