The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia registered a year-over-year increase of 2.5% in May 2026. Manresa, Vilanova i la Geltrú, and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat led the highest growth in contributors among municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
In 2025, 61.4% of the population lived in urban centers, which occupied 1.38% of the area of Catalonia.
The gross annual wage per employee in Catalonia was 31,730.05 euros in 2024, 5.8% higher than the previous year.
The percentage of the population living in urban centres increased (from 57.1% in 1950 to 62.1% in 1960) whereas that of rural areas decreased (from 26.4% to 20.5%).
