These experimental statistics aim to provide quarterly estimates of household disposable income in Catalonia and to make this information available sooner than the annual estimates. Household disposable income is the most appropriate indicator for measuring the level and evolution of the material well-being of the population and is therefore a key concept in official statistics.
The results include quarterly estimates of the main resources and uses recorded in the household income account. Based on these estimates, primary income and household disposable income are obtained as balancing items, in accordance with the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). This accounting framework ensures the consistency of results and allows the analysis of changes in household income and the redistributive impact of the actions of public administrations.
In addition to the total household income of Catalonia and per inhabitant household income, another key concept is provided: the household purchasing power index, which is obtained by deflating nominal per capita income using CPI data.
These statistics complement the information provided by quarterly GDP: while GDP reports on changes in the economic activity generated within the territory, household disposable income provides information on the economic resources available to households.
