Methodological aspects

Forests and forest land covering over half the area of Catalonia are a national wealth of extraordinary importance in terms of flora and fauna, the production of raw materials, the production of ecosystem and the contribution to leisure. The incidence of wooded masses on climate, hydrology, soil protection, air pollution and landscape makes their conservation be fundamental.

Catalonia is a country of Mediterranean climate with a lot of forest. In the summer, the drought often elevates the risk of forest fires.

In the forest areas that have suffered some incidence and have not been generated naturally, on occasions planting or seeding are carried out in order to establish a new forest land.

Reforestation programmes, whether carried out by the government or property owners, must consider the adaptive characteristics of forest species and their impact on soil conservation.
