Definition of concepts

- "Own sources" refers to water withdrawals taken directly from the environment, whether surface water or groundwater. That is, water supplies that have not been provided by an operator.
Methodological aspects
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) manages and plans the water cycle under an integrative vision of aquatic systems taking into account the balance of all ecosystems. Water constitutes a fundamental structural and functional element for the natural environment and life. Its management must be compatible with the growing demand among citizens of an advanced society for permanence, universality and immediacy, and it must guarantee quality and good service.
From 2012 onwards, water consumption, both for domestic uses and for economic activities (industry, services and others), is calculated based on actual consumption, that is, withous taking into account the minimum billing volumes reported by supplying entities.
