Methodological note

Movement of vessels reflects the number of merchant vessels that arrive at each port, whatever the type of sailing (cabotage or exterior), nationality (Spanish or foreign) or type of vessel (tankers, bulk carriers, freight, general cargo, etc.).

The number of cruisers is also included in the total for the movement of merchant vessels.

Gross tonnage (GT) reflects the capacity of inbound merchant vessels during the year of reference.

Transit of passengers in ports measures the number of people that make a journey on any type of merchant vessel that enter or leave ports by any type of shipping (cabotage or exterior).

The data for Catalonia refers to the ports of Barcelona and Tarragona.
