Methodological note
Reforestation: replanting forests through tree plantings.
The total reforested area includes:
- preferably protective reforestation: the primary motivation of this type of reforestation is the reinforcement of reservoirs and riverbanks, the fight against erosion, the fixation of sand dunes, and other measures in the conservation or improvement of the environment, notwithstanding the possible use of these areas in the production of wood and other forest products.
- preferably productive reforestation: the primary motivation of this type of reforestation is the production of wood and other forest products.
- forestation of farmland: the seeding or planting of forest species in abandoned farmland or those no longer being cultivated. This implies a change in land use from agricultural to forest land.
