Methodological note

The data for these statistics on the housing sales market come from the General Council of the Notariat, which compiles them from information contained in the Single Notarial Computerised Index (IUIN).

These statistics provide information on the number of housing sales recorded in public notarial deeds for Catalonia and for Spain as a whole, with monthly updates. Data are provided on the number of contracts, the average price per square metre and the average floor area of dwellings.

To ensure data quality, the General Council of the Notariat disseminates the data excluding sales with a joint price for multiple properties, as well as outliers relating to the price per square metre and the floor area of dwellings.

Data on notarised dwellings are not directly comparable with those from the Land Register, since the two sources refer to different stages of the sales transaction. The notarial deed reflects the formalisation of the sales contract, whereas registration in the Land Register may take place at a later date, resulting in discrepancies in the volume and distribution of transactions over time.
