Methodological note
The Industry Turnover Index (IVNI) is a monthly indicator that measures the evolution of demand in companies operating in the industrial sector in Catalonia through the industry turnover variable. It is a value index; that is, it measures the combined evolution of quantities, qualities and prices.
Industry turnover corresponds to the invoicing value of the establishment for the sale of goods and the provision of industrial services, both those of the establishment itself and those resulting from subcontracting with third parties, and it includes all charges passed on to the customer (transport, packaging, etc.). VAT and other taxes on the operation are excluded, as are sales returns, price reductions, rebates, discounts applied and subsidies received from public administrations and European Union institutions.
The reference population consists of establishments in Catalonia whose activity is included in sections B "Mining and quarrying" (except for divisions 05, 06 and 09) or C "Manufacturing" from the Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (CCAE-2009).
Idescat publishes, for Catalonia, the general industry turnover index and, furthermore, the industry turnover index for industrial products by large industrial sectors defined according to the economic destination of goods, in accordance with Annex II of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1197. These large industrial sectors (which do not include energy) are consumer goods, capital goods and intermediate goods.
It also publishes the calendar adjusted and seasonally and calendar adjusted indices, which allows for the calculation of rates of change between months of homogeneous duration and composition and without seasonal fluctuations. The adjustment is carried out for all the series offered.
The primary source of information is the continuous monthly survey of the Industry Turnover Indices statistics, which is carried out by the INE, and which investigates nearly 5,500 economic activity units operating in these sectors in Catalonia every month.
The indices are published with base 2021 and the linked series are offered since 2005. It is calculated as a fixed-base Laspeyres index, with information from a continuous monthly survey to establishments and weights from the Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector for the year 2021.
The data for the last thirteen months are provisional.
