Annual data Statistics IVGS

Methodological note

The Large Store Sales Index is an indicator which makes it possible to monitor a very dynamic commercial sub-sector, namely, non-specialised large stores. The results are based on exhaustive information on all non-specialised large stores operating in Catalonia.

Large stores mean commercial establishments with a sales area of more than 2,500 square metres. At present some sixty establishments are included. Invoicing is broken down into food and other products.

The National Statistical Institute (INE) calculates a Large Store Sales Index for Spain as a whole, but using a different methodology, as the INE includes both specialised and non-specialised large stores. This means it is not always possible to make direct comparisons between the results.

The base year of the index is 2015. It has been calculated retrospectively with the new base, the whole series being available since January 1995.

In accordance with Catalan Classification of Economic Activities 2009 (NACE Rev.2), it should be noted that these indices do not include service stations.
