34.5% of the population aged 10 years or over carry out some form of activity using computers or the internet on average at least once every day, according to the 2010-2011 Survey on the Use of Time.
The population groups groups who carry out most activities using computers or the internet are 15 to 29 year olds and people who have received higher education. The most frequent activities are related to IT, paid work and studies, the latter two being the ones that take up the most time. 10.15% of the population spend an average of 5 hours and 42 minutes on paid work, and 2.95% of people spend on average 2 hours and 59 minutes on official studies. The time when the largest number of people are performing some type of activity with a computer or the Internet is at 12 o'clock in the morning.
The time spent on daily activities performed with a computer or the Internet is an extension of the results from the 2010-2011 Survey on the Use of Time (EUT2011). The EUT2011 is the second edition of an official survey conducted by Idescat using methodology that is harmonised at the European level.
The extended results, in summary, show:
- daily activities according to whether they are performed using a computer or the Internet by user profile
- activities performed with a computer or the Internet, identified by a two-digit code
- the timetable of activities performed with a computer or the Internet, identified by a one-digit code
The Survey on the Use of Time (EUT) is a survey of the population aged 10 years or over that collects information on the daily activities of people through a personal activities journal, carried out over 12 months, a household questionnaire and an individual questionnaire.
