The ages with the most confirmed cases in relation to the population were 90 years and older (6.7 cases per 100 inhabitants) and 80-89 years (5.2 cases per 100 inhabitants).
A new protocol came into effect on 28 March 2022, under which diagnostic tests are only indicated for people with vulnerability factors, such as being 60 years old or older or suffering from immunosuppression, and for the staff and patients/residents of health and social care centres.

In the second quarter of 2022 there were 13,581 hospital admissions, 1,111 ICU admissions and 757 Covid-19-related deaths. Out of every 100 people with a confirmed case of Covid-19, 7.5 required hospital admission, 0.6 were admitted to the ICU and 0.4 died. The risk of hospital admission increases with age, but decreases with vaccination. While 7.5% of total Covid-19-positive patients were admitted to hospital, for those over 80, the percentage was 16.7%. However, within this age group, the figure was lower for fully vaccinated people (16.2%) and higher for those who have received no vaccinations (30.8%).

The age with the highest percentage of the population vaccinated with the first dose is 75 to 79 (98.4%), while the lowest percentages are 0 to 11 (28.3%) and 25 to 29 (80.9%). El Baix Llobregat (85.6%), El Barcelonès (85.1%) and El Vallès Oriental (84.7%) are the counties with the highest proportion of the population vaccinated with the first dose. El Pallars Sobirà (71.6%), L'Alt Urgell (75.1%) and Aran (76.1%) are the territories with the lowest percentage.
