Labour Cost Statistics. 2022

The total gross labour cost per worker was 36,914.62 euros in Catalonia in 2022, which represents an increase of 5.0% compared to 2021, according to the Annual Labour Cost Survey. By sector, the gross labour cost increased in construction (5.7%), services (5.4%) and industry (3.2%). By branch, the highest year-over-year increases in gross labour costs occurred in accommodation and food service activities (31.6%), education (15.5%), extractive industries (8.9%) and retail trade (7.6%).

The wage cost increased by 5.5% in 2022 compared to a year ago. By sector, it increased by 7.3% in construction, by 5.7% in services and by 4.4% in industry.

By item, 74.3% of the annual gross labour cost per worker corresponded to wage cost (27,420.90 euros), 23.3% to compulsory Social Security contributions (8,594.91 euros) and 2.4% to the remaining items (898.79 euros).

By unit size, the gross labour cost per worker increased by 6.1% in units with 1 to 49 workers, 3.1% in units with 50 to 199 workers and 4.5% in those with 200 workers or more.
