Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 09/2023. Provisional data

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 118,290 people in September compared to the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 3.5%, and stands at 3,545,390 people, according to provisional data. L’Alt Empordà (5.0%) and El Baix Penedès (4.4%) stand out with high increases, while La Ribera d'Ebre (−1.7%) is the only county where contributors fell, among those not affected by the recent changes in the county division of Catalonia.

Compared with August, the number of contributors increased by 1.5% in Catalonia as a whole, and in 29 counties as well.

By sex and with respect to a year ago, the number of women contributors to Social Security in Catalonia as a whole increased by 4.0%, higher than the increase of 3.0% in the number of men.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased the number of contributors in relation to a year ago. Those under 30 years of age increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (7.1%), followed by those aged 55 and over (5.9%), those aged 45 to 54 (3.3%) and those aged 30 to 44 (0.6%).

The affiliations in the services sector, which represent 79.0% of the total, have increased by 4.0% year-over-year and have grown throughout the territory, except in 3 counties. In industry, the affiliations increased in Catalonia as a whole, by 1.7%, and in 33 counties. Affiliations in construction increased by 2.5% year-over-year, and in 28 counties and in Aran. Affiliations in agriculture increased by 0.8%, the lowest variation of all sectors, which represents 470 more enrolments than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.2% of the employee affiliations in September 2023 were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.3%, more than double that of men (12.2%).

In terms of temporary contracts, the degree of Social Security affiliations for employed persons stands at 11.8%, 2.9 points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment is L’Alta Ribagorça (18.1%), twice as high as El Baix Empordà (8.7%) and L’Alt Empordà (9.2%), which have the lowest levels of temporary employment.
