Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 11/2023. Definitive data

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 90,990 people in the month of November as compared with the previous year and stands at 3,536,485 people, a figure that represents an increase of 2.6%, according to definitive data. The number of contributors increased in 37 counties and Aran, including El Solsonès (11.9%, affected by the new county division) and L’Alt Empordà (4.6%). On the other hand, La Segarra and Osona (affected by the new county division) saw their contributors fall by 4.6% and 1.8%, respectively. There were also decreases in L’Alta Ribagorça (−1.8%) and La Conca de Barberà (−0.3%).

In relation to October, the number of contributors have increased in Catalonia as a whole by 11,380 people, by 0.3%. The number of contributors increased to 34 counties and Aran and decreased to 8.

By sex and compared to a year ago, the number of women contributors to the Social Security increased by 3.0% in Catalonia as a whole, higher than the increase of 2.3% in the number of men.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased the number of contributors compared with a year ago, except for the 30 to 44 age group, which has decreased by 0.2%. Those aged 55 and over increased the most (5.4%), followed by those aged under 30 (5.2%) and those aged 45 to 54 (2.7%).

By nationality, the year-over-year increase in the number of foreign contributors (7.6%) is more intense than that of contributors of Spanish nationality, who have increased by 1.7% in Catalonia as a whole.

The affiliations in the services sector, which represent 79.0% of the total, have increased by 3.0% year-over-year and have grown throughout the territory, except in 3 counties. The affiliations in industry increased by 1.4% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 30 counties. The affiliations in construction have increased by 1.6% year-over-year and have also increased in 24 counties and Aran. Agriculture is the only sector in which affiliations have fallen, by −1.0%, a figure that represents 515 fewer affiliations than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.7% of the employee affiliations in November 2023 were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.8%, more than double that of men (12.6%).

In terms of temporary contracts, the degree of Social Security affiliations for employed persons stands at 11.9%, 2.3 points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is La Ribera d'Ebre (17.7%) and almost double the level of temporary contracts in El Baix Empordà (9.1%) and L’Alt Empordà (9.8%), which have the lowest levels.
