Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q4/2023 and 2023. Provisional data

Catalonia exported industrial products worth 23,008.9 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2023, which means an decrease of 4.6% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year. All groups of industrial products according to effort in research and development (R&D) decreased as for sales abroad: high technology level (−4.0%), medium-high (−5.2%), medium-low (−3.6%) and low (−4.5%).

Catalonia imported industrial products worth 23,737.5 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2023, a figure that represents a decrease of 6.2% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year. Purchases abroad of all technology levels show decreases: high-level by 8.0%, medium-high by 3.1%, medium-low by 6.2% and low level by 10.7%, year-over-year.

In 2023, Catalonia exported industrial products worth 95,543.4 million euros, which means an increase of 6.5% compared to the previous year. By technology level, medium-high and high-level exports registered an increase compared to a year ago (14.0% and 8.2%, respectively), while medium-low and low-level exports decreased in sales (−5.6% and −0.4%, respectively) in the same period.

Purchases of industrial products abroad from Catalonia reached 98,724.8 million euros in 2023, a figure that represents a decrease of 1.8% in relation to the previous year. By technology level, the medium-high was the only group that increased in imports, with 3.4%. Low technology products decreased by 7.1%, medium-low by 6.0% and high-tech by 4.6%.
