Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 01/2025

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 71,165 people, a figure that represents an increase of 2.0% in January compared to the previous year, to stand at 3,567,170 people according to provisional data. The number of contributors increased in all counties except El Lluçanès (where it fell by 1.6%), El Priorat and La Terra Alta ( both − 0.8%); in L'Alta Ribagorça it stayed the same. The largest increases were in L'Alt Empordà (3.0%) and La Selva (2.9%).

In to December, the number of contributors fell in Catalonia as a whole by 21,965 people (−0.6%). The number of contributors was down in 31 counties and Aran.

By sex and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 34,520 and the number of men by 36,650. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.1% and 2.0%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased their number of contributors with respect to a year ago, except for the 30 to 44 age group which decreased by 0.2%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (4.4%) followed by contributors aged under 30 (4.1%).

Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 6.9% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so in all counties except La Terra Alta, where they stayed the same. Spanish national contributors rose by 1.1% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 34 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.4% year-over-year, the highest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory except in El Lluçanès (−2,7%) and La Conca de Barberà where they stayed the same. Affiliations in industry rose by 1.0% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 30 counties. The increase in construction was 2.0% and it grew in 24 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 955 fever affiliations than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.4% of employee affiliations in January 2025 were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.3%, more than double the figure for men (12.7%).

In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 9.8%, 1.4 percentage points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment was La Ribera d’Ebre (14.1%) while El Baix Empordà had the lowest level (7.7%).
