Economically Active Population Survey. 2024
The unemployment rate in Catalonia stood at a mean of 8.9% in 2024, with a total of 373,600 people unemployed, 2.8% less than in 2023, according to the Economically Active Population Survey. The number of households all of whose active members were unemployed was 106,400 households (3.3% of all Catalan households), which means a 4.8% decreases compared with the year before.
As for young people under 25, the mean annual unemployment rate fell 0.3 points with respect to 2023 and stood at 22.1% of the active population aged 16-24.
The number of employed people in Catalonia increased by 2.5% year-over-year and reached a mean value of 3,827,100 people, 632,800 of whom had an employment seniority of less than a year. The employment rate between the ages of 20 and 64 stood at 75.7% in 2024, 0.5 points more than the previous year.
The population aged 20-24 with secondary studies increased by 2.8 points and stood at 81.1%, whereas the population aged 30-34 with tertiary education grew 1.5 points compared with 2023 and stood at 58.4% (56.6% in the case of men and 60.3% in the case of women). The school dropout rate decreased by 1 point and affected 13.7% of the population aged 18-24. The percentage of the population aged 25-64 who studied increased by 1.9 points compared with 2023 and stood at 16.0%.
