Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q4/2024 and 2024. Provisional data

Catalonia exported industrial products worth 24,643.1 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2024, an increase of 7.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. All groups of industrial products according to effort in research and development (R&D) increased sales abroad except those with a medium-low technology level. Sales with high technology content rose by 11.0%, as did those with medium-high and low technology content (12.0% and 4.5%, respectively); in contrast, medium-low level sales fell (−8.5%).

Catalonia imported industrial products worth 25,241.1 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2024, an increase of 6.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Purchases abroad show increases at all technology levels except for the medium-low level: high level imports increased by 5.1%, medium-high level imports by 7.3% and low level imports by 11.6%; in contrast, medium-low level imports fell by 3.1%.

In 2024, Catalonia exported industrial products worth 94,952.8 million euros, a decrease of 0.6% in relation to the previous year. By technology level, the only group that increased its exports was the low technology level, up 2.5%. High technology level products were down by 3.5%, medium-high by 0.6% and medium-low by 3.8%.

Purchases of industrial products abroad from Catalonia reached 99,197.5 million euros in 2024, an increase of 0.5% compared to the previous year. By technology level, high technology level imports fell by 4.3%, as did medium-low technology imports (-4.8%). Products with medium-high and low technology content increased their foreign purchases (by 1.1% and 6.0%, respectively).
