Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 02/2025
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 64,360 people in February 2025, a figure that represents an increase of 1.8% compared to the same month in the previous year to stand at 3,591,230 people. The number of contributors increased in all counties except La Terra Alta (−1.5%), El Priorat and El Lluçanès (both −0.8%) and La Conca de Barberà (−0.2%). The largest increases were in La Selva (3.2%) and El Baix Penedès (3.0%).
In to January, the number of contributors grew in Catalonia as a whole by 24,060 people (0.7%) and did so throughout the territory except L’Alt Urgell (–0.1%). The largest increases were in La Selva and El Baix Empordà (both 2.0%) and Aran (1.8%).
By sex and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 30,860 people and the number of men by 33,495. This represents year-over-year increases of 1.9% and 1.8%, respectively.
In February compared to a year ago, all age groups increased their number of contributors in Catalonia as a whole, except for the 30 to 44 age group which decreased by 0.4%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most (4.4%) and did so in all counties except El Lluçanès. The largest increases were in La Segarra (6.4%), La Selva (6.3%) and El Baix Penedès (6.2%).
Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 5.0% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so in all counties and Aran. Spanish national contributors rose by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 35 counties.
Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.2% year-over-year, the highest increase of all sectors, and grew in 38 counties and Aran. Affiliations in industry rose by 0.7% in Catalonia as a whole and did so in 30 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 2.0% and it grew in 30 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 480 fewer affiliations (−0.9%) than a year ago.
By type of working day, 19.4% of employee affiliations in February were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.3%, more than double the figure for men (12.7%).
In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 9.7%, 1.5 percentage points less than a year ago. Counties with the highest level of temporary employment were L’alta Ribagorça (14.1%) and El Pallars Sobirà (14.0%) while El Baix Empordà had the lowest level (7.6%).
