Demographic Historical Series. Degree of Urbanisation. 1970

The percentage of the population living in cities in 1970 was 71.9% while 12.5% lived in rural areas.

Idescat includes in the Demographic Historical Series census data on the population according to degree of urbanisation corresponding to the 1970 Population Census. The results are provided by province for the population by degree of urbanisation in relation to sex, age, marital status, education (elementary, in progress and completed), relation to economic activity, fertility of the female population and families.

Comparison of the 1970 figures with the results of the latest publication of the degree of urbanisation in 2022 shows that the percentage of the population living in cities in 1970 was 71.9%, higher than the figure for 2022 when it was 61.6%. As for towns and semi-dense areas, 15.6% of the population resided in them in 1970 while 29.5% of the population resided in them in 2022. With respect to rural areas, 12.5% of the population resided in them in 1970 while 8.9% of the population resided in them in 2022.
