aIncome per capita in Catalonia was 19,140 euros in 2022, which represents annual growth of 2.7%. Income rose in all counties, albeit most significantly in L'Aran with an increase of 8.2% compared to the previous year.

By counties, in 2022 El Barcelonès continued to be the Catalan county with the highest income per capita (21,297 euros) and was 11.3% above the Catalan average. It was followed by the counties of El Baix Llobregat (19,933 euros) and El Vallès Occidental (19,778 euros). In contrast, El Montsià and L'Alt Urgell were the counties with the lowest incomes (14,415 euros and 14,757 euros, respectively).

87% of the 468 municipalities with more than 1,000 inhabitants recorded positive income per capita growth in 2022. The highest growth rates were in Mont-Ras (26.0%) and Navata (17.0%).

Sant Just Desvern, with 30,352 euros per inhabitant, increased its income by 8.2% in 2022 and became the municipality with the highest income per capita, outstripping Matadepera (29,265 euros). Both had income per capita more than 50% above than the Catalan average. At the other extreme, Montferrer i Castellbò and Lloret de Mar were the municipalities with the lowest income per capita (12,421 euros and 12,941 euros, respectively).

Compensation of employees accounted for 60.5% of the main sources of household income and was the main component of income in all counties. El Gironès and El Pla de l'Estany were the counties with the highest proportion of income from wages (at 63.8% and 63.0%, respectively).

Income from gross operating surplus represented 19% of the main sources of household income. La Cerdanya was the county with the highest proportion of income from this component (31.2%), followed by El Pallars Sobirà (28.8 %).

Social benefits accounted for 20.2% of the main sources of household income. El Berguedà was the county with the greatest weight of this component (30.0%), followed by La Terra Alta (27.6%).

By municipalities, Perafort was the municipality with the highest percentage of income from compensation of employees (72.3%). In terms of gross operating surplus, La Vall de Boí (41.1%) was the municipality with the highest percentage with respect to its sources. Finally, in terms of social benefits, La Pobla de Lillet was the municipality where the weight of this component in total main income was highest (38.6%).

Idescat is publishing the Gross Disposable Household Income (RFDB), Benchmark Revision 2024, for 2022 for the counties and L’Aran and municipalities with more than 1,000 inhabitants. The change derived from the Benchmark Revision 2024 has entailed re-estimating the entire series of these statistics since 2010. The period 2010-2021 is definitive while 2022 is provisional.
