Georeferenced Population of Catalonia as of 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2024
Idescat provides georeferenced population data for Catalonia from the Population Census as of 1 January 2023 and 1 January 2024 with the variables sex, age, nationality and place of birth.
Georeferencing individuals involves assigning each person their position (x, y) on the map based on their postal addresses.
The individuals are aggregated to be presented on a multiresolution grid (62.5 m, 125 m, and 250 m) which is compatible with the standard European grid EEA Reference grid - European Environment Agency. To preserve statistical confidentiality, data is not reported for any grid where the total number of individuals is fewer than 17.
These maps can be crossed with users’ own geometries in order to obtain the data on the population residing within any specific geometry and the data on the distribution of population densities across Catalonia, among others.
The information is provided in a ZIP folder containing the files in Shapefile format, along with the associated methodology in PDF format.
