Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 04/2025
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 67,670 people in April 2025, a figure that represents an increase of 1.9% compared to the same month in the previous year, to stand at 3,656,560 people. The number of contributors rose in all the counties except for El Priorat (−0.5%), La Terra Alta (−1.2%) and La Ribera d’Ebre (−1.5%). Aran and L’Alta Ribagorça led the largest growth in contributors (4.3% and 4.2%, respectively). The Easter effect must be considered, given that last year it was celebrated in March.
As for March, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 40,005 people (1.1%) and was up in 36 counties. The main increases were in El Tarragonès (6.0%) and La Selva (5.6%). On the other hand, the number of contributors remained stable in La Segarra and decreased in 5 counties and also in Aran, where it decreased the most (−14.1%).
By sex and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole rose by 32,605 people and the number of men by 35,065. This represents year-over-year increases of 1.9% in both men and women.
In Catalonia as a whole, in April and compared to a year ago, all age groups increased their number of contributors, except for the 30 to 44 age group which fell by 0.4%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most (4.5%) and were up in all the counties except for three. The main growth were registered in L'Alta Ribagorça (7.2%) and Aran and El Baix Penedès, with 6.7% both of them.
Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 4.7% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so throughout the territory except in three counties. Spanish national contributors increased by 1.3% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 35 counties and Aran.
Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.3% year over year; they grew in 39 counties and Aran. Affiliations in industry rose by 0.6% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 29 counties and Aran. The rise in construction was 1.9% and it grew in 28 counties. Agriculture registered 955 fewer affiliations than a year ago (−1.6%).
By type of working day, 19.3% of employee affiliations in April were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.9%, more than double the figure for men (12.7%).
In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 9.7%, 1.4 percentage points less than a year ago. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were La Ribera d’Ebre (13.9%) and L’Alta Ribagorça (13.7%) while El Baix Empordà had the lowest level (7.2%).
