The Government approves the Catalan Classification of Economic Activities 2025 (CCAE-2025)

The Government has approved the Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (CCAE-2025), which constitutes a comprehensive revision of the structure of the previous CCAE-2009. The aim is to provide a coding system that allows information on economic activities to be processed uniformly for statistical purposes. This Classification has been elaborated by the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) with terminological support from Termcat, following consultation with the bodies producing official statistics, mainly the departments of the Government of Catalonia.

The CCAE-2025 is aligned with the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE Rev. 2.1), approved by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/137 of 10 October 2022, and established by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), at the EU level. It is also consistent with the new National Classification of Economic Activities 2025 (CNAE-2025), approved by Royal Decree 10/2025 of 14 January, at the national level.

Statistical classifications, such as the CCAE-2025, are instruments that organize and categorize the characteristics of economic and social reality, with the aim of ensuring the comparability of statistical information across space and time.

Specifically, the CCAE-2025 can be used to classify productive units (companies and establishments) according to the type of activity they carry out and it allows, among other things, to standardize the administrative documentation of those Catalan public administrations containing codified economic activities. This standardization allows for improved exchange of information and better delimitation of these activities when providing aid to companies. In addition, the CCAE-2025 contributes to the process of standardizing Catalan terminology.

The Catalan Classification of Economic Activities 2025 will be available in the Statistical Classifications section of the Idescat website once published in the Official Journal of the Government of Catalonia.
