Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 05/2025

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 82,535 people in May 2025, a figure that represents an increase of 2.3% compared to the same month in the previous year, to stand at 3,702,560 people. The number of contributors rose in all the counties except for La Terra Alta (−0.7%) and El Pallars Sobirà (−0.4%). El Baix Penedès (4,1%) and Les Garrigues led the largest growth in contributors (4.1% and 3.7%, respectively).

As for April, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 46,055 people (1.3%) and was up in 41 counties. The main increases were in La Ribera d'Ebre (4.0%) and El Segrià (3.9%). On the other hand, the number of contributors decreased in Aran (−1.5%) and in L'Alta Ribagorça (−0.3%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole rose by 39,240 people and the number of men by 43,300. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.3% in both men and women.

In Catalonia as a whole, in May and compared to a year ago, all age groups increased their number of contributors. Contributors under 30 and those aged 55 and over have increased the most, by 4.8% in both cases. Contributors of younger ages have increased in all counties and Aran, except for El Pallars Sobirà (−2.1%), while contributors of older ages have increased in all counties and Aran, except for El Pallars Jussà (−1.8%) and El Lluçanès (−1.4%).

Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 4.8% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so throughout the territory except in La Terra Alta (−0,7%). Spanish national contributors increased by 1.7% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 39 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.7% year over year; they grew in 39 counties and Aran. Affiliations in industry rose by 1.0% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 33 counties and Aran. The rise in construction was 2.6% and it grew in 31 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 950 fewer affiliations than a year ago (−1.6%).

By type of working day, 19.2% of employee affiliations in May were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.9%, more than double the figure for men (12.6%).

In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.1%, 1.1 percentage points less than a year ago. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were La Ribera d’Ebre (13.9%) and L’Alta Ribagorça and El Pallars Sobirà (13.4%, both), while El Baix Empordà had the lowest level (7.2%).
