Statistics on Hotel Activity. 05/2025

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 3.0% year-over-year in May 2025, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays increased by 6.2%: of these, those of Catalan travellers increased by 6.6% and travellers from the rest of Spain increased by 5.9% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays decreased by 5.9% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from the United Kingdom, France and United States show the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (818.9, 737.9 and 428.9 thousand, respectively), with a negative year-over-year variation in France (−17.5%) and United States (−4.5%) and positive in the United Kingdom (6.9%).

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.1, 1.3 and 1.2 million, respectively) with negative year-over-year variations 5.0%, 2.8% and 3.2%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments increased by 1.9% year-over-year, with an increase in domestic tourism by 7.9% and in foreign tourism decreased by 0.8%.
