The value of exports to Catalonia was 8,917.0 M€ in May 2025, a figure that represents a year-over-year decrease of 3.4%. Imports, with a value of 9,839.5 M€, decreased by 0.2%.

As for exports by economic destination, those of intermediate goods decreased by 7.2% and those of consumer goods by 0.7%. On the other hand, exports of capital goods grew by 18.8%. By geographical area, sales decreased in America by 35.1% and in Asia by 2.7%. Conversely, sales to other countries and territories in Europe (non-EU members) grew by 14.0%, to the European Union by 1.5% and to the rest of the world by 0.1%.

By branches of economic activity, the most notable decreases in sales were in mining, extraction and refined petroleum products (−38.5%; −114.8 M€), chemical industries (−11.0%; −306.7 M€), basic metals and metals products (−10.3%; −50.4 M€) and motor vehicles and other transport equipment (−7.1%; −106.6 M€). On the other hand, the branches with the most significant growth were sales of electrical and electronic equipment (18.3%; 101.5 M€), machinery and equipment (11.6%; 53.5 M€) and crop and animal production, hunting, fishing and aquaculture (10.3%; 19.9 M€).

As for imports by economic destination, those of intermediate goods fell by 5.7% whereas imports of capital goods increased by 12.7% and consumer goods by 7.6%. By geographical area, purchases from countries and territories in Europe (non-EU members) decreased by 18.7%, from America by 15.3% and from Asia by 3.8%. In contrast, purchases from the rest of the world grew by 8.5% and from the European Union by 6.1%.

By branches of economic activity, decreases were registered in purchases of mining, extraction and refined petroleum products (−33.7%; −265.1 M€), chemical industries (−9.7%; −201.7 M€) and textiles, manufacture of wearing apparel, leather and footwear (−6.5%; −54.2 M€). In contrast, it stood out a growth in purchases of electrical and electronic equipment (25.9%; 172.3 M€), basic metals and metals products (10.7%; 59.8 M€) and office, precise and optical equipment (10.3%; 23.0 M€).
