Labour Cost Statistics. 2024

The total gross labour cost per worker was 40,339.8 euros in Catalonia in 2024, which represents an increase of 3.5% compared to 2023, according to the Annual Labour Cost Survey. By sector, the gross labour cost increased in industry (5.3%) and in services (3.7%). On the contrary, it decreased in construction (4.4%). By branch, the highest year-over-year increases in gross labour costs occurred in chemistry and rubber (8.9%), cultural and sports activities, and other services (8.8%) and transport and storage (6.5%).

The wage cost increased by 3.5% in 2024 compared to a year ago. By sector, it increased by 5.2% in industry and by 3.7% in services. On the contrary, it decreased by 6.7% in construction.

By component, 73.7% of the annual gross labour cost per worker corresponded to wage cost (29,726.88 euros), 23.8% to compulsory Social Security contributions (9,604.07 euros) and 2.5% to the remaining cost components (1,008.87 euros).

By unit size, the gross labour cost per worker increased by 1.6% in units with 1 to 49 workers, 4.4% in units with 50 to 199 workers and 4.1% in those with 200 workers and over.
