Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 07/2025

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 60,770 people in July 2025, a figure that represents an increase of 1.7% compared to the same month of the previous year standing at 3,690,025 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in 36 counties, led by Les Garrigues (3.4%) and El Baix Penedès (3.2%). Conversely, the number of contributors decreased in five counties and Aran, with the highest decreases in La Terra Alta (−1.1%) and El Pallars Sobirà (−0.9%).

Compared to June, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 7,705 (−0.2%) and did so in 16 counties, led by La Ribera d'Ebre (−1.4%), El Priorat (−1.3%), El Vallès Occidental (−1.2%) and El Vallès Oriental (−1.1%). Conversely, it increased in 24 counties and Aran, with the highest increases in Aran (7.3%), El Pallars Sobirà (3.9%) and L’Alta Ribagorça (3.5%).

By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 29,645 and that of men by 31,125, which represents year-over-year increases of 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups , except for the 30 to 44 age group, which fell by 0.7%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most (4.3%) and did so in 37 counties and Aran, with the main growth in El Baix Penedès (7.0%) and La Segarra (6.1%).

The number of foreign national contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 5.0% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so throughout the territory, except for La Terra Alta (−2.8%). As for Spanish national contributors, they increased in Catalonia as a whole, by 0.9%, as well as in 31 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector were up by 1.5% year over year, growing in 36 counties. In industry, affiliations increased by 0.5% in Catalonia as a whole and they also grew in 26 counties and Aran. The rise of affiliations in construction was 2.4%, the largest increase of all sectors, growing in 32 counties. Agriculture is the only sector in which affiliations decreased for Catalonia as a whole (−1.2%), with 710 fewer than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.1% of employee affiliations in July were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.0%, more than double the figure for men (12.4%).

In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.6%. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were El Pallars Sobirà and L’Alta Ribagorça (15.0%, both), while El Baix Empordà registered the lowest level (7.6%).
