Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 08/2025

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 77,360 people in August 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 2.1% and standing at 3,683,920 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in 38 counties and Aran, led by Les Garrigues and El Segrià (3.9% in both cases) and followed by Osona (3.7%). Osona is affected by the change in county assignment of Aiguafreda which has switched from El Vallès Oriental to Osona. By contrast, the number of contributors fell in three counties with the highest relative decrease in El Priorat (−0.6%).

Compared to July, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 6,105 (−0.2%) and did so in 31 counties, led by El Pla de l’Estany (−1.3%) and El Vallès Oriental (−1.0%). Conversely, it rose in 10 counties and Aran, with the highest relative increases in El Priorat (1.4%) and Osona (1.1%), while it remained stable in La Segarra.

By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 36,515 and that of men by 40,850, which represents year-over-year increases of 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups, except for the 30 to 44 age group, which fell by 0.2%. Contributors under the age of 30 increased the most (5.0%) in all counties and Aran (except in L’Alta Ribagorça, where they remained stable); the main growth was in El Segrià and L’Alt Camp, in both cases around 10%.

The number of foreign national contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole (6.0%) compared to the same month in the previous year and did so throughout the territory. As for Spanish national contributors, they increased in Catalonia as a whole (1.3%) and also in 35 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.2% year over year, growing in 39 counties. In industry, affiliations increased by 0.9% in Catalonia as a whole and they also grew in 32 counties and Aran. The rise of affiliations in construction was 3.0%, growing in 33 counties. The largest relative increase across all sectors was recorded in agriculture, up 3.5%, representing an additional 2,145 affiliations.

By type of working day, 19.0% of employee affiliations in August were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.0%, more than double the figure for men (12.4%).

In erms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.6%. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were El Pallars Sobirà (15.5%) and L’Alta Ribagorça and El Pallars Jussà (14.8%, both) while El Baix Empordà registered the lowest level (7.7%).
