International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science

Idescat is proud to support the International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science, an initiative promoted by the Caucus for Women in Statistics (CWS), the Portuguese Statistical Society (SPE) and the American Statistical Association (ASA).

International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science

After the success of the first three editions, this year's theme is “Thriving in Your Environment” and will feature more than 60 talks from around the world. As part of the event, the audience will be prompted to consider what their professional and academic environment is, what “thriving” means and how to get the support they need from the statistics and data science community. These talks can be followed on the CWS YouTube channel.

The International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science aims to showcase women’s contributions to statistics and data science, connect women statisticians and data scientists around the world and encourage collaborations among statistical societies. The organisers hope the event will encourage the statistics and data science field to become more inclusive and diverse.

To celebrate the event, Idescat disseminates the data on women and men with university degrees related to statistics and data science, for the period 2016-2024, based on data from the Ministry of Research and Universities.

Figures for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 school years show an increase in the number of graduates in statistics- and data science-related studies, due in part to the rise in undergraduate and master's degree programmes offered in this field.
